Outside Mount

Most vertical blinds are an outside mount application. To measure for this, measure from the top of the molding down to where you want the blinds to hang. The mounting brackets will add 1-1/4" over the top of the molding. To accurately order the proper length add 1-1/2" to length measurement.

For an outside mount, using an extension bracket will allow the blind to hang down past the window sill or even to the floor. This will give a more "drape-like" appearance. Many people are opting for vertical blinds over drapes because of economics and the light manipulating functionality of verticals.

Inside Mount

Vertical blinds can be mounted on the inside if the casement around the window is deep enough to allow for the maneuvering of the slats. This usually requires a casement at least 3" deep. Inside mount verticals look very nice. With an inside mount the blinds must hang to the sill. When ordering an inside mount blind, you must specify so we will send the proper mounting brackets. You must also specify length, not window opening. By specifying length, you can be sure you will have the 1/2" clearance necessary to insure smooth operation of blind.

General Mounting Instructions

Before mounting vertical blinds, it is important that you determine where the bottom of the slats will fall. To accomplish this, follow these steps.

  1. Attach the mounting bracket to the headrail.
  2. Attach one slat to the headrail.
  3. Place mounting bracket against the wall. Once you have established that the bottom of the blind is at the proper height, mark the wall and proceed to mount the brackets.

Following these steps will eliminate the possibility of having to remount the brackets.
