How to Measure for Shutters

Measure your window opening as you would if you were measuring for an inside mount blind. Measurements must be precise. Width top, middle, bottom. Height, left and right side. If the width of the window opening varies from 30-7/8" to 31-1/8", the correct width to order would be 30-7/8". Expert installation compensates for the window imperfections. Warning: If you order a shutter too wide, it creates a big problem. The shutters will need to be milled to fit.

E-Z Frame Mount

Shutters mounted with E-Z Frame are designed to be mounted on sheet rock return openings. No allowances or difficult measuring procedures are necessary. Simply give measurements for heighth and width, the factory does the rest.

All frames come pre-cut to length and mitred at corners, for easy assembly.

Inside Mount

  1. Inside mounts will only work if opening is reasonably square. Check diagonals of opening. If measurements vary more than 3/4" some type of frame will be necessary.
  2. Measure the depth of the opening to the bottom, remember the wider the louver the more depth required. For a 2 1/2" louvered shutter, you must have at least 1 1/2" of depth.
  3. Measure the width from inside opening to inside opening, starting from bottom, then center, then top. Give the narrowest of the three measurements.
  4. Measure the height from inside opening to inside opening, starting from left, then center, then right. Give the narrowest of the three measurements.

Arch Top Windows (Template Required)
  1. Measure the width from inside opening to inside opening, starting at the breakpoint of arch near the top, then middle, then bottom.
  2. Measure the height from inside opening to inside opening at the highest point of opening down to bottom.
  3. Make template material large enough to extend beyond width of opening and to hang below breakpoint of opening. Use push pins to secure template to wall (tape tends to peel fresh paint off of wall). If necessary, cut hole in center of template to enable access to back side of template for marking outline of arch. Be sure to mark "front" and "back" on the corresponding sides of template.
  4. Reference marks can be placed at any given point on a template before removing from wall. Measure from bottom of opening to any point on template on the left. Repeat for right side. Write the measurements on the template on each corresponding side.
